A great number
of people suffering from a high blood pressure have episodes of
acute asymptomatic myocardial infarction not recognized in time.
The disease is discovered by ECG or echocardiographic recording
during a routine check up.In the Framingham study one third of
all acute myocardial infarctions remained unnoticeable and among
those suffering from a high blood pressure that percentage was
even higher. In 1999 and 2000 during routine check ups by ECG
we diagnosed myocardiall infractionin sub-acute or sub-chronical
phase in 20 patients who, between two check ups, had not had any
problems. All 20 patients suffered from hypertension, but they
did not have diabetes mellitus as a secondary disease.During the
same period by echosonography we diagnosed myocardial infraction
in 20 patients whose hypertension was treated and who did not
have any problems.Incidents of asymptomatic myocardial infraction
were more frequent in women suffering for more than 5 years from
arterial hypertension of less severe and very severe type.In males,
however, we diagnosed cases of mild (medium state) arterial hypertension.
Our results confirm, once again, that all types of asymptomatic
coronary diseases are very frequent and for their diagnosis and
timely treatment it is absolutely necessary to make ECG and ultrasound
of the heart 2-3 times a year.
